Social Research & Evaluation Services

Artemis Research NZ Limited provides high quality and timely social research and evaluation services.

Projects from design to completion

The company’s core services are the provision of social research and evaluation projects.  Methods most frequently used within a mixed-methods design include:

  • in-depth interviews and focus groups
  • questionnaire design and analysis
  • case studies
  • reviews of research findings
  • qualitative analysis of interview transcripts and submissions
  • quantitative analysis of survey and administrative data.

The resulting information is then triangulated and, in the case of evaluations, synthesized to determine the merit, worth or value of the policy or programme being evaluated.

General social research and evaluation assistance

Artemis Research also offers general assistance to others requiring additional social research or evaluation expertise on an ‘as needs’ basis.  Services offered include:

  • project management services
  • management of procurement processes for research/evaluation projects
  • assistance with development of a strategic approach for the allocation of research / evaluation funds
  • assistance with designing outcome frameworks and intervention logics
  • assistance with particular design needs (research briefs, evaluation plans, interview guides, databases etc)
  • facilitation of consultation processes with businesses and communities
  • recruitment and conduct of interviews with key stakeholders
  • assistance with coding and analysing qualitative data (such as submissions, research material generated from interviews and focus groups etc)
  • assistance with analysing survey data
  • peer review and quality assurance services
  • preparation of reports and presentations (including tailoring the presentation of research findings for particular audiences)

Ways of working

Ethical framework

Artemis Research NZ Limited operates from a strong ethical base.  All those working under the company umbrella are guided by a professional code of ethics (such as the Aotearoa New Zealand Evaluation Association’s).

Engaging with research participants

We start from a position of respect for all research participants.  The detailed responses we have gained from interview participants from all walks of life – from chief executives of large NZ-based businesses to offenders of serious crime - reflect the quality of the rapport we are able to build with participants.

The director, Judy Paulin, is of NZ European ethnicity. She has successfully led and contributed to numerous projects focused on other specific ethnic groups, including Māori.  She acknowledges Māori as the Tangata Whenua of New Zealand.

Quality assurance & risk management

The company ensures all steps in the provision of its services are in line with best practice.  For example, by:

  • having a project manager and one point of contact for each project
  • providing clients with regular progress updates, together with a discussion of any issues and how these might be addressed
  • using project management techniques to ensure that project activities progress in line with agreed dates
  • including cognitive / pilot testing of research tools, wherever possible
  • internally reviewing each report prior to it being sent to the client
  • following the appropriate professional codes of ethics
  • only working within areas of expertise and drawing on that of other specialists where required
  • covering off risks through contingency planning
  • participating in ongoing training in social research and evaluation
  • being covered by professional indemnity insurance.
